Veterinary Exam

Yearly veterinary exams are the foundation for good health in your pet.

Veterinary exams are like the annual check-ups humans have with their doctors. Regular wellness visits are a key part of preventative care, helping us identify potential health issues early before they become serious threats to your pet’s well-being.

When should my cat or dog have a veterinary exam?

Veterinary exams should be a yearly ritual for all cats and dogs. Depending on their age and health status they may require more veterinary visits. Puppies, kittens and senior pets have a more precarious health status and will need to have a veterinary checkup multiple times throughout the year. Seniors need a wellness checkup every six months, while kittens and puppies should have up to three visits each year. In addition to early diagnosis, routine veterinary exams ensure that each patient is developing normally for their age.

What happens during a veterinary exam?

Wellness visits begin with a thorough physical exam of your cat or dog, allowing our team to detect symptoms that might be easily missed. After the exam, we may perform diagnostic tests like bloodwork, fecal, and urine analysis to uncover parasites or underlying health issues. During the visit, our veterinarians will also discuss important preventative care, such as parasite prevention, vaccinations, and weight management. These visits are a great opportunity for pet parents to share any changes they've noticed in their pet and receive advice on diet or lifestyle adjustments.
