Vaccines for Puppies & Dogs

We offer core and non-core vaccines to give your canine friend immunity against diseases.

Vaccinations protect against diseases that can be serious or even fatal. They are essential for maintaining your pet's health from puppyhood through adulthood. At our hospital, we customize vaccination plans based on your pet's specific risk factors. To discuss a vaccination schedule for your dog, call us at 250-765-2916.

When should I vaccinate my puppy/dog?

Vaccination should begin between the ages of six to 12-weeks-old. The first few weeks of your puppy’s life is a critical period to begin building their immunity. Different doses of vaccines should be administered every two to four weeks until they are four-months-old. Adult dogs will need boosters every one to three years, once they have completed their puppy vaccines.

Why are booster vaccines necessary?

Boosters are essential because they strengthen your pet’s immunity. While the initial vaccines your puppy received are effective for a certain period, their immunity can decrease after a year or two, making boosters necessary. If boosters are missed, your dog may need to restart the entire vaccine series to rebuild their immunity.

Are there any risks to vaccinating my pet?

While vaccines are safe, there is still a chance that your pet may have a reaction to them. Some puppies or dogs may experience certain side effects after they have been vaccinated. The symptoms usually clear up within 48 hours and generally don’t require veterinary attention. After being vaccinated your pet may experience fever, hives, swelling at the injection site, loss of appetite or fatigue. Our team will provide special instructions on how to care for your pet if they experience any side effects.
