Euthanasia

A compassionate procedure for cats and dogs suffering from chronic pain or terminal illness.

If we had the option our beloved pets would live forever, staying happy and healthy always. Death is often unforeseen, but in some cases you might see your loyal companion experience severe pain due to chronic illness or injury. It's in those moments when euthanasia becomes the kindest gesture you can give your pet. As pet parents ourselves we understand that saying goodbye is an extremely difficult decision. Our team wishes to offer our deepest condolences and support in the final moments of your pet’s life.

How do I know if I am making the right decision?

After spending years with your cat or dog, you may notice when they start to change—becoming less active, more withdrawn, or losing interest in activities they once loved. Whether due to a lifelong illness or a sudden injury, it’s often clear when your loyal companion is facing more bad days than good. From a medical perspective, your veterinarian might recommend euthanasia if your pet is in severe pain or suffering without a cure for their condition. Our veterinarians prioritize providing palliative care to ensure your pet’s comfort before any decisions are made. As much as you may wish to delay the fate of your forever friend, ultimately euthanasia is the kindest act you can do for them. If you're having doubts feel free to discuss your concerns with one of our veterinarians. To schedule an appointment please call us at 250-765-2916.

What is euthanasia like for my pet?

Euthanasia is a very quick and pain-free procedure. The medication is injected intravenously and takes effect within seconds. The injection contains a seizure medication that when given in a high dose stops all brain and heart activity. Your pet will not have any reaction, they will simply fall into a deep sleep.
