Deworming is an ongoing process to protect your pet from internal parasites.
Worms are parasites that pose a threat to your pet’s health throughout their lives. There are various ways your cat or dog may contract worms, either through contact with other animals, ingesting animal feces or through their mother’s milk. If your pet becomes infected it's extremely important to seek veterinary treatment. By treating and preventing worms you protect yourself and your family from contracting zoonotic worms which can spread from animals to humans.
Parasite prevention should start early in your pet’s life when they are a kitten or puppy. It's possible for kittens and puppies to get worms from their mother. We recommend that deworming start between four to six-weeks-old. They should be dewormed every 2 weeks until they are three months old.
Adult cats and dogs should be dewormed frequently. Adult dogs need to be dewormed seasonally or every three months. Your cat may need to be dewormed once or twice each year. Your veterinarian can recommend when your pet should be dewormed based on where they live, whether they hunt and if they interact with other pets regularly.

Internal parasites like worms cause damage from within, often showing no visible signs until the infection has progressed. Here are some signs that your pet may have worms:
Most worms can be detected by collecting a stool sample. When a cat or dog is infected, worm eggs can be identified by looking at the sample through a microscope. Other worms can either be diagnosed with the naked eye (tapeworms) or with a blood test (heartworms).
